Our Story 〰️

The creation of the Bruin Flea was first sparked by Delta Sigma Phi's '620 Night Market,' which was a quarterly, in-fraternity-house night market during the 2022-23 school year. It was first created by chapter brothers and undergraduate UCLA students, Luis Lopez and Holland Smith, who wanted to transform the fraternity house into a space that promoted collaboration and community involvement. The night market would host around 30+ student and Los Angeles-based vendors who would sell clothing, art, and homemade goods, and even had a tattoo parlor with professionally licensed LA artists. The night market also invited young musicians and performers onto a home-built stage to perform and debut their musical talents to guests. And in the end, a portion of proceeds went to supporting a local non-profit and/or student-led iniatitive.

Following the conclusion of the 2022-23 school year, our vendors and musicians learned to love the vibrant UCLA community and provided feedback to continue the flea events in Westwood. Our team knew that Westwood & UCLA could use even more collaborative, intimate, and safe platforms for young entrepreneurs to jumpstart their self-made businesses and careers, thus The Bruin Flea was born!

Delta Sigma Phi has now hosted the '620 Night Market' in Fall 2022, Winter 2023, and Spring 2023. We thank all the vendors, musicians, and guests who attended to make the events such a success, and we have loved your feedback for more!

As part of our philanthropic efforts, we were able to provide spotlight info booths and donate portions of our earnings to the Midnight Mission in Fall 2022, UCLA's End Overdose Chapter in Winter 2023, and SOS Initiative in Spring 2023. More information on these organizations can be found on their respective websites by clicking the logos below!

The Bruin Flea team will now continue on a monthly basis directed by Luis Lopez, now an undergraduate UCLA alumnus, in collaboration with the Westwood Village to host the Bruin Flea on Broxton Avenue beginning in October 2023. Meanwhile, Delta Sigma Phi’s UCLA chapter will continue to host in-fraternity-house night markets on a quarterly basis, or as scheduling permits, offering double the opportunities for local businesses and performers!
